Major work commenced in January on a new community park back that will open in Fishermans Bend around the middle of this year.
The project is transforming an industrial site at 2–4 Buckhurst Street, South Melbourne into a 9000-square-metre public park. It will feature four lawn areas, outdoor LED lighting, paved entrances, seating and garden beds.
Jointly purchased by Port Phillip Council and the Victorian Government, the development will be known as the Montague Community Park until its unveiling, when it will be renamed. The new park is two and a half times the size of Melbourne City Square and is directly opposite the new South Melbourne vertical primary school that opened earlier this year.
