The renewal of Fishermans Bend will create five unique and appealing neighbourhoods – Wirraway, Sandridge, Montague, Lorimer and the Fishermans Bend Employment Precinct.
Wirraway, Sandridge and Montague are in the City of Port Phillip while Lorimer and the Fishermans Bend Employment Precinct are part of the City of Melbourne.
Fully developed, Fishermans Bend will be home to more than 40,000 new jobs and up to 80,000 residents by 2050.
Currently, Fishermans Bend is mostly used for industrial purposes. The area has more than 1000 parcels of land ranging in size from 100m2 to more than 13ha, mostly owned privately.
Planning experts and community representatives are working together to find the best locations for new housing, public transport, schools and community services.
Striking towers will be built closer to the CBD and where existing public transport links are strongest. In contrast, areas along the southern boundary of Fishermans Bend will reflect the low-rise character of nearby residential areas.
The first stage of strategic planning is expected to be finished early in 2016 and fresh precinct plans will be publically available for comment in the second half of the year.

Victoria’s Planning Minister Richard Wynne says Fishermans Bend is a major urban growth opportunity for Victoria.

“We’re making sure we get it right, to ensure Melbourne can accommodate a growing population and remain the envy of the world.”
